Mora:

All products are made in Mora, Sweden, like they always have. Mora has always developed their knives in close collaboration with professional users. It is a prerequisite for professionals to get what professionals want: knives that maintain consistent, high-level quality. This demand is met by Moras professionally skilled colleagues when they – in one single facility – run a proven and secure manufacturing process. This gives Mora total control over all the steps of the manufacturing process – from metallurgy to delivery of the final product.
An important part of the secret of knife manufacturing is heat treatment. That is where Moras uses the steel's unique properties to increase the knife's durability and reduce the risk of corrosion. Mora has developed these processes together with world-leaders Sandvik. And it is from them that Mora obtains the cold-rolled Swedish steel that they use to make their stainless steel knives. In fact they can actually track the steel for their knives all the way back to the mine. Mora always begins with the task for which a knife will be used. Then they choose the steel. Sometimes carbon steel is most suitable, sometimes a laminated steel is required and, in many cases, a stainless steel is the right choice. During grinding, the edge and honing angle are adjusted to exactly match the knife's use.

Steel types:

Stainless steel: knife blades are made of hardenable stainless steel- Sandvik 12C27 (hardened to HRC 57-58), producing knives with extreme strength, long life as well as having high resistance to moisture without rusting.

Carbon steel: knife blades of high carbon steel can be hardened to HRC 59-60, giving best possible sharpness to lowest price. Knives made from above mentioned steel grades will after some use achieve a dullish grey finish. However, this will not negatively affect the quality of the blade. On the contrary it will somewhat improve the resistance to corrosion.

Triflex: modified carbon steel is best described as a material between laminated steel and plain carbon steel hardened to HRC 59-60 with a softer surface that improves the tensile strength considerably.

Laminated steel: steel grade is unique to knives from Mora of Sweden. The core of the blade is of high carbon steel surrounded by a softer alloyed steel layer. A high hardness (HRC 61) can be achieved through hardening, resulting in a knife blade with superior toughness, cutting edge retention and thereby maximum sharpness and long life. The blade can also be bent into a predetermined shape.
